June 2025

The warm weather has finally arrived and the water play is well under go in the Abacus nursery. 

The children have lots of fun water activties to take part in from jumping and splashing in the paddling pools to chasing each other with water pistols and enjoying a good old fashion water fight! There really isn't a better way to cool down! 

The children will continue to look after their crops and watch them grow, we currently have grown and got to taste:

- Raddish

- Lettuce

- Strawberries

and we now have Cucumber, Peppers and tomatoes also growing! 

We have also planned to take part in a local park clean up to teach the children about recycling and the impact litering has on our community. 

May 2025

This month we will be starting our own vegetable patch and start to grow our own vegetables and fruits with the children using our green house and teaching them basic life skills. Something they can take home and put in to practice also. They will learn how to grow something from a seed, how to look after it and care for it by watering it etc, then fun part - picking the vegetables and TASTING THEM!! Keep an eye on our social media pages to see the progression of our fruits and veg! if any of our lovely parents have any tips or advice we would appriciate the help. Or even better, come in and speak to the children about your knowledge on growing fruit and vegetables. 

We will celebrate VE day this month also and teach the children about history in a gentle way suitable for their age range. By taking part in suitable activties and arts and crafts. 

We will also be hosting a talent show in the garden on the stage, where the children will have the oportunity to take the stage and show us what they have got! wether it is singing, dancing, or general performing. We cannot wait to see the performances!

WE GOT FISH! 

The children really wanted a pet to look after and care for and show their independance so Rachael got them Fish. They love sponge bob so we went with a sponge theme tank and got 4 fish all named after sponge bob characters. The children were delighted and couldnt wait to feed the fish and watch them eat!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!

We hope you are all looking forward to celebrating easter and enjoying all of your lovely goodies!

This month you can see keep an eye on our social media pages for our Easter photoshoots and lots of fun and entertaining easter activities for the children, from easter egg hunts in the park to creating our own easter eggs from loose parts and natural items. 

We are now accpeting donations of loose parts and natural items. A list of what this includes is attached below:

- pine cones

- shells

- sticks

- leaves

- flowers

- beads

- string

- dried food such as pasta rice etc. 

- recycable plastics such as containers bottles etc. 

- Materials / fabrics

- old clothing for dressing up in 

March 2025

HAPPY ST DAVIDS DAY!!

This month we are very excited to be celebrating St Davids day. 

To Celebrate we will be hosting a St Davids Day photo shoot with a professional photographer. We will ask for a charge of £5 per child for the photos. Children are more than welcome to come in dressed up for the photos or wearing what ever they feel most comfortable in. 

The children will take part in various activties as well as trip out to visit different places around Swansea.

The children were so excited at the end of last month when Wills petting Farm came to visit the children with their animals, the children got to feed the animals, hold them, smooth them and take care of them. They were so excited! 

During this month we will be celebrating Valentines day and St Dwynwens Day! 

The children will be taking part in multiple activities such as Valentines day arts and crafts, Loose part play, Messy play and many more. Keep an eye on our instagram page to see all the lovely activities that take place. 

We will be hosting a Valentines day Arts and Crafts competition Where all children will take part in creating their own Valentines day masterpiece and winning a prize! 

New Years 2025

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025

We are very excited to welcome you all back to the new year of 2025. 

We hope you all had a lovely christmas break and are now refreshed and ready to get back to normality. 

This month we have lots planned for the children such as: 

- new year activities 

- new years arts and crafts

- Chinese new year activties

- parents stay and play

- planned trips for the children

- Yoga lessons with our lovely teacher Carol. 

- Wills petting farm

How exciting that we have Wills petting farm visiting the nursery with their lovely animals, teaching the children life skills of how to care for a pet and one another. this will take place on the 20th January 1pm. We can't wait to see the childrens faces! 

December 2024

MERRY CHRISTMAS - NADOLIG LLAWEN

We at Abacus hope that you are all enjoying this festive December period!! The children have been talking about how excited they are for Christmas and what they have written on their Christmas lists. 

Preschool have had fun singing songs that they have learned from taking part in their Christmas plays or from staff members singing jingle bells, five little reindeers and ting a ling. They have also been learning about the Christmas Nativity, we have been sitting during circle time reading about the story and then designing tuff trays accordingly. Preschool have shown their great knowlege and intrest when it comes to exploring the tuff trays telling us how the story unfolds.

Toddlers and babies have also been busy learning all about Christmas. They have enjoyed getting stuck into their creative, sensory and messy play activities. They have been creating Christmas trees, chimneys for santa and designing their own snow men using loose parts and designing their own pretend snow. 

We have also recently taken our annual Christmas photos. All the parents and children have been really excited to dress up and have their photos done. All the children have also been busy making little goodey bags to go home to gift to their loved ones each creating their own card, two gifts and a poem with a ribbon of their height to unwind.

We have lots of fun activites instore for the month of Novemeber where they are able to learn about important events. Bonfire night, Remebrance day, Children in Need and the end of autumn.

Babies, Toddlers and Pre-school have already kicked off Novemeber with a bang setting up different activites surrounding bonfire night. They have had fun designing their own fireworks using glitter, paint and stickers whilst also learning about the celebration through play. This has been done through messy play tuff trays and tables set up to learn about firesaftey and the role of paramedics role playing becoming the those people to really understand how imporant it is to not only enjoy the night by going out to watch the fireworks but also learning about how to be safe and take care of others.

This is such a sneak peek of what we have instore as it is just the start of Novemeber. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming weeks of what the children here have been up to.

Happy Halloween!!

October has been filled with lots of different fun activites for the whole nursery to explore, experience and get stuck into!!.

All the children here at Abacus have been looking forwards to Halloween and are excited to dress up and go trick or treating. We love to see the halloween spirit. Each floor has been busy setting up their activities.

Babies have enjoyed exploring their halloween themed tuff trays. Within these babies staff have been placed items that relate to the halloween holiday for them to pick up, wear touch. 

Toddlers have enjoyed getting stuck in doing arts and crafts. They have been designing their very own witches hats that they can wear and take home. They have also enjoyed turning into scientists where they have been exploring all sorts of creepy crawlies.

Preschool have been getting stuck in to their messy play activites. They have been using their senses of touch, smell and sight to explore the different tuff trays. Having them get stuck into playing with monster ice hands to carving their own pumpkins.

Sept 2024

During the month of September the children at Abacus have been getting busy. They have been taking part in a variety of different sensory activites using their senses of smell,touch,sight and hearing. 

Babies have enjoyed using the sense of touch when exploring through rice play using their fine motor skills to to pick up the rice in small handfuls, examing the rice and seeing what they can design and find.

Toddlers have be focusing on their hearing, they have been doing this through the use of musical instruments, seeing what noises they can make using the instruments they have at hand and designing their own using bottles and loose parts.

Pre-school have been using their senses, touch and sight by creating their very own playdough adding citrus scents to see if they can guess which scents mtach the fruit on the card. They also designed their very own faces using a varitey of loose parts and natural items.

We have all been working hard together during the month of September to help raise food donations for the Harvest Festival where the staff and children will be going to Sketty Food bank to donate this food to those in need. This is will take place at the begining of October.

Abacus Outings

During this month babies, toddlers and pre- school have been enjoying going on lots of different trips.

By going on trips it allows children to boost their development as it expands their world and allows them to be more empathetic towards others cultural differences. It helps shape their linguistic development and encourages their sense of adventure, curiosity and imagination. It also allows them to develop and expand on their social skills encouring them to meet new people and make friends.

Diwrnod chwaraeon - Sports Day

During the month of June we held of a varitey of different sports days for the children to take part in. 

There was a sports day section for each age group ranging from easy to medium to hard. These were held at our local parks where there was tons of space for us to set up and allowed the children to run freely.

They reallly enjoyed being able to go out an explore and enjoyed playing with their friends guiding and working together to complete the courses.

May 2024

Spring / Gwanwyn 

During the month of May we have been experiencing lots of sunshine and rays of blue skys. Due to this we have been fortune to take babies, toddlers and preschool to our local parks where they are able to run wild, going into the parks discovering and exploring a change in the leaves and different habitats during the month of spring.

We have also been using both our front and back gardens using the slides, cars, bikes and setting up obstacle courses to challenge the children to use their fine motor and gross motor skills.

March 2024

Dydd G?yl Dewi  - St Davids Day

During the month of March we celebrated both St Davids Day and St Patricks Day. 

Everybody looked amazing dressed up in their traditional Welsh outfits. Da Iawn !! It was lovely to see everyone so enthusiatic to come together to celebrate the Welsh holiday. The staff set up a ray of different activites, designing their very own Welsh flag tuff tray made out of different coloured rice and having a welsh themed tuff tray where they could learn about traditonal Welsh food, the animals, our rugby team and of course the daffodil.

St Patricks Day - Lá Fhéile Pádraig

Staff also set up activites inspired by this holiday. Babies are exploring the colour green. They are trying to pronounce the word green and are learning their fine motor skills and how to grip objects. 

Toddlers are are exploring their St patricks day themed tuff tray. They are learning words in Gaelic as well as Welsh and English.

Preschool explored their messy play themed tuff tray using their senses of touch and smell to explore the different textures and sents on the tray.

Happy Valentines Day!

We here at Abacus have been busy getting stuck in doing a variety of different activites to celebrate Valentines day!

Babies have enjoyed using their senses to explore our sensory themed tuff tray, where we have made red coloured rice for them touch and explore, having also placed pots and pans for them to create mixtures of food and love potions.

Toddlers are getting stuck in with their Valentines day themed tuff tray. Within this they were able to explore a varitey of different items that were on theme with what Valetines day is all about. They also enjoyed having a tea party set up where they were able to feed our bear cake.

Preschool got stuck in using their creative skills where they were able to design their very own cards for their loved ones and friends, chosing what colours they would like to use and had fun sticking and gluing, stickers,glitter,pipe cleaners and pom-poms to their cards to go home.

DYDD CREMPOG HAPUS!

Do you know what day it is? Thats right its PANCAKE DAY!

We here at Abacus hope that everyone is having an amazing day and are enjoying all the delicious pancakes that are getting made today.

Each floor has been designing activites where they can teach babies, toddlers and preschool about pancake day and why it is a day we celebrate. We like those within our care to get stuck in and be as indpendent as possible where they are able to fully immerse themselves into each activity and have us close by to assist if need be.

Each floor has gotten the ingredients that are needed to make pancakes allowing the children to design their very own. 

We have also set up messy play activities where they can role play being cooks using flour and water and utensils to make pancakes.
